Martha Parker

The challenge was fantastic! I guess if you’re wondering what we did that was so much fun. I’ll try to tell you. We arrived at the Payne center in the pouring rain. We found our court and waited to find out what the challenges would be for the day. The first challenge was a basketball free throw so you had to toss as many baskets as you could get in a preset time. We broke up into teams for that one. Our second challenge was the tug-of war, you had to win best two out of three rounds. That was evens against odds and the odds won both times. The third challenge was The jump—four team members each jumping from the previous persons landing spot to see which team jumped the longest distance. The fourth challenge was three legged race and the Fifth race was a four man split. One had to jump rope, one had to do push ups, one had to do sit-ups, and one had to run a 50 yard dash. All the teams were constantly changing when suited us fine because we are working as one team during the week. Everyone is encouraging each other and we are celebrating our accomplishments as we go through this journey.

For myself, I was so shocked to get two baskets in the free throw, you have no idea how happy I was to tell my sons, Alex and Joshua that I made those two shots. I was also proud that I did so well in the jump rope competition because it’s been a long time since my elementary days out at Sunrise when I was a jump rope girl but seemingly I picked it right back up. At days end, I was absolutely shocked when my name was called that I’d been one of the three highest point collectors of the day. I won immunity. I was so overwhelmed with joy. My mom was there to celebrate the day with me and later I got to share it with my boys. The Challenge Day is a day I will never forget, I succeeded at things I never thought possible before the competition.
